Letter to Students

Dear Students,

I would like to extend an invitation for you to join us in worship and Bible study and times of fellowship as we share the love of our Lord with each other.

As the pastor, I would also like to tell you a little bit about our church. As we gather for worship, we attempt to turn toward the hearer and make room for all who come whether they are seekers, skeptics, or believers. In the spoken word, the music, and the movement of the service, we focus less on persuasion and more on transformation, less on asserting religious doctrines and more on offering an experience of the gospel. I prefer a story or narrative structure for sermons, and our music leaders like to combine traditional and contemporary music forms that enhance our sense of celebration and openness to our Lord’s presence.

Our student pastor, Dusty Coyle, leads the college/young adult bible study on Sunday mornings. After worship Dusty and collegiates load up the church van and go out to eat. Wednesday evenings at 5:45pm, collegiates join in the church fellowship meal—first time free, and then a buck thereafter—a really good deal for a good meal. At 6:45 pm, collegiates are invited to participate in a mentoring program with the youth ministry. Dusty can tell you more about this.

There are other opportunities for service and participation. We have an outstanding volunteer choir, led by MSU Choral Director, Dr. Greg Detweiler, that meets Wednesdays at 7:45 pm. If you like to sing, this is a non-intimidating, but excellent music opportunity. We are always looking for volunteers to work in our children’s ministry—teaching Sunday School, leading Children’s Church, staying in the nursery, and we also offer a variety of small groups that include special interest such as writing, knitting, reading, and making traditional music.

Of course, there is much more to say about our church. I hope you will look through our website, but even better would be to visit with us and give us an opportunity to get to know you.

Sincerely,

Don Mantooth
Senior Pastor
